Last Stop: Pumpkin Picking!

Recently, Steve and I took our last trip out to farm country for the season (sigh & sad face).  Everyone is gearing up for Halloween so we thought we would venture out to pick up a few pumpkins for carving.  This time we headed north to one of my favorite farms, Butler's Orchard, in Maryland.  If you are a Washingtonian then you have probably already been here at least once - if not you must take yourself there immediately - shame on you! ;)

There are a few generations of Butler family members who live and run the farm and it warms my heart to see a family owned business alive and well.  They have the best Jonathan and Stayman apples and every variety of pumpkin under the sun.  Row upon row of raspberries are inviting you the pick them and are so sweet they will not, I repeat, WILL NOT make it home because you couldn't wait that long to eat them.

It's just what the doctor ordered for anyone tired and hankering to get away from the big city. It's also amazingly wonderful to breath in the fresh air and get your hands a little dirty while butterfly and the occasional cricket pass you by.

Every time we come home from Butler's Orchard, our fingers and tongues are stained red, our bellies are full of yummy fruit and caramels sold at the register, and we have arms full of pumpkins, apples, and other produce.  I need to have a farm.  Seriously.  There is nothing like it.  One day. (Sigh)
