Feeling Springy!

Went to the market today to pick up some fresh organic fruit - locally grown and came upon these beauties.  I wish you could smell them.  They are filling the entire house with Spring.

Little Pretties

Look at these little pretties!  I'm working on these gems as part of a Spring collection I'll be putting out in another week or two in my Etsy shop.  I can't help but feel a bit excited about how they are turning out - so colorful and bright.

They're porcelain keepsakes, measuring 3 inches in diameter to hang about the house, in a little nook, or maybe even in your office to welcome you with a bit of color and sunshine.

I've made each of these lovelies by hand, first drawing with pencil, sketching out details, then with watercolor and ink.

*Sigh* I LOVE making things and this is no exception - a labor of love for sure.

Here are some closeups of the bird portraits.  The hummingbird is my favorite I think.

Sweet Inspiration

Ok- so have I mentioned that I am addicted to Etsy?  Well I am and if you didn't know it, now you do.  How can you not be is what I ask!?!  Seriously, the options and opportunities for shopping are endless.  Needless to say I found a treasure that I am thrilled to share - a beautifully hand-stiched embroidered work of art.

I just love the birds and the flowers, but my favorite think about it are the green leaves that frame the work.  On the back there's a sweet note from Peg, the gal who created this work back in the 80's.  If I were Dee I don't think I'd have ever let this go...

Now it sits on my dining room table and brings smiles whenever anyone looks upon it!  Just lovely!  *Sigh*

This purchase was made at a sweet little shop called Sun & Moon.

Embroidery Session; Part 2

Alright, so I am starting to feel confident on these fancy stitching skills and am starting to flex my finger muscles on trying out some new techniques with creating lettering and flowers.  I think I'm going for a wall hanging - although I didn't really have a clear vision of where I wanted to go with this so I am flying by the seat of my pants and will figure it out as I go.  So far, I'm digging' the nod to  spousal glee (my husband, Steve, was actually very touched) and I like the flower I through in on the left.  Now what to do with the rest of the space?  More flowers? I think that will be a given... Hmmm.. what else, what else?  If you've got any ideas shoot me a comment!  I need help getting the creative juices flowing in the embroidery department!

Here's the latest and greatest work on my project (no laughing please!!!):

On another embroidery note, I recently picked up this lovely case of amazing "floss" on Etsy.  Sometimes I think I buy more than I sell on there, but it's okie-dokie!  Just look at the amazing jewels of thread I found!  Aren't they lovely!?!  I was getting ready to make a big financial splurge at JoAnne's and Michael's craft stores when I thought I'd take a look in the vintage section of Etsy for a lot of floss and it turns out there are amazing deals there if you just take a look.  I love the fact that I am adopting thread from a fellow stitcher before me and wonder what these beautiful threads helped make.  I also like that it feels a bit "green" and "tree-hugger-ish" that I am re-using before going out and purchasing brand new.  To top it off - notice how each skein of thread is numbered?  Sweet! Now I can easily find the same color when I'm ready to purchase more...  Maybe I'm over thinking it, but still, I'm giddy.

If you are interested in picking up a deal on embroidery threads - check out these listings I found (and am oh-so tempted to purchase myself!)
